Programs
This course is led by certified instructors and is open to anyone ages 10 and up, including adults. Participants with little or no archery experience are encouraged to consider registering for our Beginner/Intermediate Target Archery Program, which runs on the same dates.
Participants must wear closed-toe footwear. No open-toe shoes, sandals, or crocs are allowed. Please dress appropriately for weather conditions, as the archery course runs throughout the woods at GRCC. Participants must be able to walk hiking-style trails and cross bridges, stairs, hills, and uneven terrain.
Archers will learn equipment usage, target identification, eye and hand dominance, range safety, the shot process, target shooting, scoring and recording, 3D/field archery course layout, and the importance of mental clarity in archery.
Archers are required to bring their own equipment. Vertical bows only (compound, recurve, longbow, barebow), no crossbows. A minimum of 4 to 6 arrows with field tips is required; no broadheads allowed. Participants must be able to draw a minimum of 10 pounds on a bow. Target distances will range from 10 to 15 yards up to 30 to 40 yards, depending on age and skill level.

Note:
Youth ages 12 and under must have an adult present at all times.
It is strongly recommended that you visit a local archery shop to have your bow inspected and properly adjusted before sessions begin.
Local shops include Shattuck's Great Outdoors (Portland), Becker's Archery (Fowler), and Backwoods Trading Post (Freeport).
